Hell Hole Swamp Festival

2023 Festival Dates: May 5-6

The Hell Hole Swamp Festival is held during the first full weekend of May. For those in the Lowcountry at that time, the event is quite memorable. The 2-day festival includes music, arts & crafts, antique and classic car shows, unique various contest and amusement rides both days.
The activities begin on Friday with amusement rides, a community potluck and a music in the park.

The festival includes unusual events by modern standards, including a spitting contest, a legs contest, arm wrestling, a parade, the Miss Hell Hole beauty pageant, and a race called the Hell Hole Gator Trot. The Hell Hole Gator Trot is the Lowcountry’s oldest 10k race. Winners of the race receive fake alligator heads as trophies and get to participate in the parade, held after the race.

The festival kicks off with a parade, the likes of which you just won't see in the big cities in our state.

Each year some lucky strong arm takes home the trophy for the annual arm wrestling competition. Ladies, don't worry... they have one for you too.

The heritage of Hell Hole Swamp is evident in this annual festival that features some down-home music. The stage... is a front porch, of course.

You'll also find arts and crafts, children's field games and an antique tractor show on tap.

No backroads festival in South Carolina would be complete, of course, without a midway. It's not a huge carnival, but it works and the kids love it.

Our music line up is out of this world this year so be sure to come out and see Trae Pierce & The T Stones Saturday May 6th from 12 -2:30 pm and Cat Strickland & The Nine Lives Band from 3 - 6 .  Grammy Award-winning artist and bass player, Trae Pierce is leading a wild new musical experience known as Trae Pierce & the T-Stones (TPTS). From his Florida home, this bass “monster” has hand-picked a vibrant young group of musicians with limitless energy and extreme talent, and together they have been tearing up dance floors throughout the United States with a genre-blending twist of rock rhythms that bring out the best in every beat. Defined by hard-edged rock mixed with hip-hop and pop, Trae Pierce & the T-Stones have developed a high-energy live show with a modern feel that recalls the unstoppable grooves of HipHopRockabillyFunk!
Be sure to bring a chair, a canopy and a cooler.

Our band is called The Nine Lives - Spoda (vocals/lead guitar) KC Hazelwood (Drums) Jimmy Mac (Bass)  and Cat Strickland (lead vocals/guitar)  The set list is eclectic and fun and all over the place.  Most of the songs we perform are very familiar and even take you back to some forgotten hits from decades ago.  Most importantly, we have a great time performing together and I think it translates in our venues.
